Agnes Deja is a visual artist working mainly in painting and sculpture. In her recent work with industrial asphalt-infused paper, the artist explores both the material qualities and the process involved into expressive gestural work of creating abstract sculptural forms, while remaining open to accompanying reflections on environmental consciousness, kinesthetic memories and perception of space, as well as manual labor and the history of underrepresented perspectives.

Regrowing Mountains – Asphalt Gestures 1-7, outdoor installation by Agnes Deja in the NY Governors Island Art Fair 2018. Deja creates paintings on industrial asphalt paper, which are then deconstructed and manipulated in a gestural expressive way to build three dimensional sculptural forms. Originally working with reused and repurposed waste material, Deja chose asphalt paper to conceptually represent urban spaces as well as environmental impact of urban sprawl. On view on the island in September 2018. Official Art Fair hours: Sat & Sun 11-6pm, all weekends in Sept. For more info visit http://www.4heads.org/governors-island-art-fair-2018/

Mapping the Unknown. Abstract Topographies by Agnes Deja.

Solo exhibition of works by a NJ painter and sculptor Agnes Deja. Working in an expressive and intuitive way, always experimenting with the materials and processes, the artist is interested in tapping into our inner connection with nature, expressing our environmental consciousness, memories of land and longings for open spaces. Deja’s textural work bridging painting and sculpture is often reminiscent of topographies, aerial views and geological formations. For further information about the artist and to see more of her work visit www.AgnesDeja.com.
